Managing Difficult Emotions

Psychodynamic psychotherapy views difficult feelings such as depression, anxiety, and anger as rarely being as simple as they seem.  While changing our thought patterns and behaviors can be helpful in the short-term, to achieve lasting change we often need a greater understanding and appreciation of the depth of our emotions.  Many times this means recognizing that we are feeling more than just "sad" or "worried," and that our emotions are filtered through the lenses of our current circumstances, past experiences, and close relationships.  Psychodynamic psychotherapy emphasizes the uniqueness of the individual, and recognizes that the richness and subtlety of our emotional lives can't be fully grasped by a "one size fits all" approach to therapy.
